Bio-based eyewear

Find the iconic style you love made with sustainable bio-based materials. Our bio-based frames are made from one of the following sustainable materials: bio-acetate, bio-based nylon or bio-based rubber. Bio-acetate frames are made by mixing cellulose acetate with a new kind of plasticiser, making them biodegradable to help reduce the environmental impact. Our bio-based nylon frames are made of at least 57% bio-based content, replacing fossil-based materials with renewable sources like caster oil. Designs for kids feature bio-based rubber elements containing at least 28% biological content from renewable sources like corn, making them more sustainable and safe – with all their original style. Ray-Ban uses bio-based nylon lenses composed of at least 40% biological content from renewable sources like castor oil to make our sunglasses more sustainable. While we cannot use bio-based materials for our polarized lenses yet, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our sustainable practices. Our sustainable efforts include packaging, too. Ray-Ban boxes are made from 100% recycled paper, further reducing their environmental impact.
